Ben was an intern at Functional Integrated Training for three months prior to becoming a coach and administrative assistant in August 2014.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in exercise and sport science with a concentration in strength and conditioning from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in May 2014. Ben worked previously in the fire and emergency service field before deciding the he didn’t want to continue working in a high-stress environment.

He takes a very analytical approach to coaching and training. A big observer in human movement, Ben always seeks a solution a problem.

As a coach, he believes he wears many hats. Ben firmly thinks, as a coach, you must be a guide, a motivator, a good listener and a positive role model. He views the athletes with whom he works as his family, and he truly cares about their goals and successes.

Ben is a competitive triathlete who has completed more than 30 races since 2009. He has finished Ironman Wisconsin twice (2010 and 2012) and qualified for the Olympic-distance age-group national championships in USA Triathlon every year from 2011 to 2014.

Ben is well known in the endurance community as “Captain America.”

He is a certified personal trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine and a Level 1 coach through USA Triathlon.

Ben grew up in Madison, Wis., and returned following a 10-year tour around the state.
